Abgang vom Gymnasium (daher wurde 1,16 Seelen beibehalten). Bei a hört
sie schon Ende 1784 auf, zuerst in Nr. 87 vom 11. Dez. 1784 (Staar, Staat
139,12 .25; kurz vorher noch Hare 138,16)1). Bei e hält sie sich ein Jahr
länger; noch 182,23 (6. Dez. 1785) Sele, 185,2 (26. Dez. 1785) bescheren
(später stets Scheere, scheeren, bescheeren 356,11), aber Seele 186,19.22.28
usw.2) Für o geben die Briefe zu wenig Beobachtungsmaterial, um die
Grenze zeitlich genau zu bestimmen; doch vgl. Bot 77,31, Los 107,31 gegen
Schoos 253,19 u. ö.
3) Auch für die Vereinfachung von auslautendem dt zu d ist das Be-
obachtungsmaterial spärlich. Sie beginnt anscheinend erst in Leipzig (vgl.
Stad 6,23, 7,12) und dauert bis 1785. Die ersten dt im Auslaut begegnen am
11. Sept. 1785: beredt 172,35, Schwerdt 174,23. Die Schreibung tod, die auch
später noch neben todt vorkommt, ist kaum als Vereinfachung anzusehen,
da Richter hier früher auch inlautend einfaches d schreibt: tödet 43,4, toden
75,15, 89,23, 120,6. (Daher wurde 1,18 todenleise angenommen).
4) Für tz zwischen Vokalen steht anfangs zz, seit Mitte 1782 einfaches z.
Das letzte zz findet sich am 27. Mai 1782: iezzigen 43,20, das erste z am
21. August 1782: ieziges 48,5. Nur in Fremdwörtern kommt auch später
noch zz vor: Skizzen 52,34, 53,6 u. ö. (aber Skizen 103,30, 132,4, 196,13). Zum
tz ist Jean Paul erst 1804 übergegangen.
5) Für ck zwischen Vokalen steht bis Ende 1789 kk. Das letzte kk be-
gegnet am 26. Sept. 1789: Abschikkung 274,14, das erste ck am 18. Nov. 1789:
Decke 278,10 . Später schreibt Jean Paul sogar Ackusativ: 380,35, 381,24.
6) Die Ableitungssilbe -iren schreibt Jean Paul seit Ende 1789 nach
Wielands Vorgang (s. I. Abt., XI, 294,26--31) mit ie. Nr. 292 vom 18. Nov.
1789 hat noch -iren (disputiren, datiren, hospitiren, devalvirt), Nr. 303 vom
15. Febr. 1790 realisiert 281,23. (Die Lesung antizipiren 279,32 ist unsicher.)

Zum tz ist Jean Paul erst 1804 übergegangen. 5) Für ck zwischen Vokalen steht bis Ende 1789 kk. Das letzte kk be- gegnet am 26. Sept. 1789: Abſchikkung 274,14, das erste ck am 18. Nov. 1789: Decke 278,10 . Später schreibt Jean Paul sogar Ackuſativ: 380,35, 381,24. 6) Die Ableitungssilbe -iren schreibt Jean Paul seit Ende 1789 nach Wielands Vorgang (s. I. Abt., XI, 294,26—31) mit ie. Nr. 292 vom 18. Nov. 1789 hat noch -iren (diſputiren, datiren, hoſpitiren, devalvirt), Nr. 303 vom 15. Febr. 1790 realiſiert 281,23. (Die Lesung antizipiren 279,32 ist unsicher.) 1) Vereinzelt schon vorher Saal(e) 3,15 (aber Sal 93,6) und in Briefen an die Mutter Staat 46,29 , Maas 48,13. Die digitale Edition der Briefe Jean Pauls im Deutschen Textarchiv basiert auf der von Eduard Berend herausgegebenen III. Abteilung der Historisch-kritischen Ausgabe mit den Briefen Jean Pauls. Die Bände werden im Faksimile und in getreuer Umschrift ohne Korrekturen vollständig zugänglich gemacht. Nicht aufgenommen, da in der hier gewählten Präsentation kaum nutzbar, sind Berends umfangreiche Register über die III. Abteilung in Band III/9, die in das elektronische Gesamtregister über die Briefe von und an Jean Paul eingegangen sind. Das bedeutet: Aufbewahrungsorte von Handschriften sowie veraltete Literaturverweise blieben ebenso bestehen wie die Nummern der von Jean Paul beantworteten Briefe oder der an ihn gerichteten Antworten, Nummern, die sich auf die Regesten in den digitalisierten Bänden beziehen und nicht auf die neue IV. Abteilung mit den Briefen an Jean Paul (s. dort die Konkordanzen).

Eine andere, briefzentrierte digitale Edition der Briefe Jean Pauls ist derzeit als Gemeinschaftsprojekt der Jean-Paul-Edition und der Initiative TELOTA in Vorbereitung. Die Metadaten dieser Ausgabe sowie veraltete Verweise in den Erläuterungen werden dort so weit als möglich aktualisiert. Die Digitalisierung wurde durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördert.
